Mapping the New Normal

Events have conspired to upend what we have come to expect as “business as usual”.

Whatever expectations we had for 2020 have, at best, been put on hold.

People, organizations and systems are being tested in terms of their agility, resilience and, in many cases, viability.

We find ourselves on pause — held in limbo as we adapt to the necessities of our present condition.

When we eventually press the metaphorical play button on our lives, what do we want as the “new normal”?

  1. What are the things we stopped when the pause began that we definitely should not start doing again?
  2. What are the things we were doing before (or continued at a low level during) the pause that we want to start back up again?
  3. What are we doing during the pause that is unique to this situation? How do we make sure we remember what worked (and what didn’t) for the next time?
  4. What new ways of working have we adopted during this period that we want to continue in the future?
  5. Finally, as we mark our return to normalcy, what are the innovative ways of working that we want to start to explore, test and practice as we step into the future?

How are you imagining your new normal?
